WAI Belgium Community Manager
We are excited to announce an opportunity for a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Country Community Manager in Belgium. This volunteer position is ideal for someone who is enthusiastic about AI, committed to promoting diversity in tech, and has experience in building vibrant and engaged communities. As the Country Community Manager in Belgium, you are in a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the expansion and engagement of the WAI community within the country. This position involves strategizing and executing plans to grow the community, foster partnerships, and develop comprehensive community engagement packages. You will report directly to the Belgium Community Lead and coordinate with local community leaders to ensure alignment with the organization’s mission and goals.
Who we are
Women in AI (WAI) is a nonprofit do-tank working towards inclusive AI that benefits global society. We are a community-driven initiative bringing empowerment, knowledge, and active collaboration via education, research, events, and blogging. At Women in AI, we empower women and minorities to become AI & Data experts, innovators, and leaders. We encourage ethical applications and responsible use of artificial intelligence. WAI was founded in 2016 in Paris, France, by Dr. Hanan Salam, Caroline Lair, and Moojan Asghari. What initially started with a small Facebook group has grown into a powerful community with more than 10.000 members (and counting) in 140 countries. The WAI NL team comprises 15 volunteers who want to support our mission to make AI inclusive. Our team is working on mentorship programs, a youth activation program, an inclusive talent fair, and accelerator programs.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and Implement Engagement Strategies:
Create and execute strategies to increase community engagement and membership across the country. - Establish Partnerships:
Build and maintain relationships with academic institutions, industry leaders, and other relevant organizations to support WAI’s mission. - Design Community Packages:
Develop and oversee the execution of community packages that cater to diverse groups within the AI field. - Coordinate with Local Leads:
Work closely with city community leads to ensure local initiatives align with national goals.
Manage National Events:
Plan and manage national events, workshops, and seminars to promote WAI’s mission and enhance community visibility. - Analyze and Report:
Monitor community engagement metrics and provide detailed reports to senior leadership with insights and recommendations for further growth. - Main Contact Point:
Serve as the primary contact for all community-related inquiries and initiatives within Belgium.
Requirements:
- Passion for AI and Diversity:
Enthusiastic about AI and committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the tech industry. - Community Building Experience:
Proven experience in building and nurturing engaged communities, ideally within the tech or AI sectors. - Strong Organizational and Leadership Skills:
Demonstrated ability to organize events, manage projects, and lead community initiatives effectively. - Excellent Communication and Networking Abilities:
Strong skills in connecting with people, building relationships, and communicating effectively with diverse audiences. - Experience in Community Management or Event Planning:
Previous experience in these areas is highly desirable and will help in successfully managing community activities. - Volunteer Commitment:
Ability to dedicate 3-4 hours per week to volunteer duties, with flexibility to adjust based on event schedules. - Knowledge of AI Ecosystem in Belgium:
Good understanding of the local AI landscape, including key players, organizations, and opportunities for collaboration. - Experience with EU Grants:
Familiarity with EU grants for DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) initiatives is a plus and can enhance the community’s access to resources and funding.
